This is a delightful leather concertina box with brass and gilt accents. On the top is a leather knot with binding of brass. When opening the clip a moire blue silk lining is revealed with a depressed compartment in the lid containing a bone glove stretcher. The depression is lined with deep blue velvet and the stretcher fits neatly into a little brass pocket at one end and a rotating clip at the other which holds it securely in position. It is special to open a glove box and find the original and correct stretcher. The condition is good for age with some small markings on the leather. The concertina component appears intact but the catch does not lock although this may never have done so. The lining is in very good condition and the stretcher itself shows some wear consistent with use. 10.5 ins (26.5cm) x 3.25 ins (9cm) x 1.25 ins (3cm). Weight 336 grams. This item appears in my book, “Antique Boxes, Inside and Out” on page 401.
