This delightful string box has three legs and a lift off lid. At the upper edge of the actual pot are two small holes through which string or thread could be passed. It is of very dark treen, possibly lignum vitae. There is the addition of several concentric carved rings and a shaped finial. This shape of item has origins in African, Dutch and Wiccan folklore and is quite intriguing. It is in excellent condition and would be of interest to those who collect form-related items. 2.5 ins (7.5cm) x 4 ins (11cm). Weight 114 grams. This item appears in my book, “Antique Boxes, Inside and Out” on page 334.
