This is a charming book-form box which appears to be a stack of four antique titles which when opened reveals to one’s surprise a small decanter with four little liqueur glasses. The box itself is in tooled leather with titles on the spine and looks most realistic. The interior has leather lining which is in marbled pattern on the frame for the glasses. The top edge of the glasses are gilt and the little decanter bottle has gilding on the top of the body and on the stopper. There is a ‘Made in France’ stamp in front of the decanter and the hinge and strut are off brass. Its condition is very good for age but there appears to be a slight crack at the top of the neck of the bottle which cannot be felt from the inside. This would be a fun item on an office desk or in a den, for book-lovers and those who enjoy a tipple – the perfect gift for the gentleman who has everything! 5 ins (13.25cm) x 7.25 ins (19cm) x 5.25 ins (14cm). Weight 880 grams. This item appears in my book, “Antique Boxes, Inside and Out” on page 159.
