This is an unusual treen box to hold a watch made in classic Mauchline Spa style with a transfer on the top of the ‘Reculver Towers’, Kent. The box opens to reveal a velvet-lined space in deep teal blue with a small raised pin at the base over which the bow of a watch could be placed to keep it secure. The base of the box is lined with black-brown original paper. The box itself has a nice patina but some generalised tiny stains consistent with age. It closes and opens firmly and the hinge is in good condition as is the velvet lining. This would be a lovely addition to a collection of Spa items or to contain a treasured watch. Length 3.25 ins (8.2cm), width 2.5 ins (6.1cm), depth 0.75 ins (2.4cm). Weight 38 grams. This item can be seen in my book, “Antique Boxes, Inside and Out” on page 276.
