This is a stunning papier mâché Palais Royal aide memoir with a beautiful detailed painting under a glass panel featuring an imposing building and street scene depicting what appears to be the Chambre des Députés, Paris. The back is plain with a small blank cartouche. The original fine treen pencil slides neatly into three intact leather loops. These act as a closure or clasp when the pencil is in place. The interior is lined with moiré deep pink silk with an additional pocket. There is an unattached silk covered booklet with a maker’s mark from the Palais Royal and a frontispiece (see images), days of the week in French, with the addition of a calendar for 1841. There is an additional booklet of blank pages. The leather spine has a small loss at the top, otherwise the piece is in superb condition. Length 3.75 ins (10cm), width 2.48 ins (6.3cm), depth 0.40 ins (1cm). Weight 58 grams.
