This is a portrait of a young lady who was apparently identified as 'L. Peacock'. She was 16 years old when this image was taken. It was acquired as a Ruby Ambrotype. The sitter wears a full pale colored gown and an array of jewellery picked out in gold, including a watch chain, appendage and partly visible watch at the waist, finger rings and a brooch. Her cheeks are tinted the softest pink. The ambrotype is housed in a half case and ornate gilt frame. The image is a sixth plate. The condition of the image is fair, the sitter being quite clear but the surrounds show moderate tarnish and spotting. The mat also has some tarnish. The front of the case is missing and the back shows some wear. Despite these problems this is an interesting image of the early second half of the 19th century and may possibly be restored. Sixth plate. Case measures 3.5 ins (8.9cm) x 3 ins (7.6cm). Weight 82 grams. Insured Air Mail Post with tracking to the USA would be $21.00 USD - with no tracking is cheaper.
