This is a crisp, clear portrait of a young lady wearing a lovely pale colored plaid gown with full sleeves and a large white lace collar. Her jewellery is picked out in gold and includes earrings, a necklace and a plaque and possible chain at the waist which could well have held a watch. The case for this image is standard for the era with intact hinge, and hook and loop closure. The condition of the image and mat is very good for age. The case shows considerable surface loss but is still intact. This daguerreotype would be a very worthwhile addition to a collection of these fascinating items of the 19th century. Case measures 3.5 ins (4.8cm) x 3.1 ins (7.8cm). Weight 110 grams. Insured Air Mail Post with tracking to the USA would be $30.00 USD - with no tracking is cheaper.
