The first is titled The “Bloomers” in Hyde Park, or an Extraordinary Exhibition for 1852. This was etched by George Cruikshank and published in January 1st 1852 by D. Bogue of 86 Fleet Street. It shows a number of women wearing a combination of short crinoline and voluminous bloomers, and it is mocking the current bloomer fad of the time. The second, titled A New Court of Queens Bench and As It Ought To Be or The Ladies Trying a Contemptible Scoundrel for a Breach of Promise by the same designer, etcher and publisher dates to 1850. All of the dignitaries of the court and the jury are women. The third is titled “The Rights of Women” or the Effects of Female Enfranchisement (The Comic Almanak for 1853). Some of the placards depicted include comments like “Sweetheart Voters”, “Vote for Darling and Parliamentary Balls Once a Week” and “Do not vote for ignorant puppies”. All three are folded in concertina fashion and show a little bit of wear, spotting and staining consistent with age. These could look fascinating framed – making a political statement of the mid-19th century. Insured Air Mail Post with to the USA would be $12.00 USD.
