This spectacular full-cased image features a lovely lady wearing dress of the period and a fine lace pelerine cape over the bodice. She has the hairstyle typical of the era and is wearing a brooch at the throat and a dark guard chain which passes to a pencil (a not uncommon appendage) and almost certainly a watch placed behind her belt or tucked into a watch pocket. She is holding a book. The decoration of the dark outer case, the velvet lining and the mat are all most attractive. The image itself is very crisp with only the tiniest bit of oxidation and is basically in super condition for the age. The case closes with one single loop and hook. This would make an excellent addition to any collection of daguerreotypes and would make a significant statement. Sixth plate : 2.75 x 3.25 ins. (7 x 8.5cm). Case measures 3.6 ins (9.3cm) x 3 ins (7.5cm) x 0.5 ins (1.2cm). Weight 116 grams. This item can be seen in the book, "How the Watch was Worn - A Fashion for 500 Years", on page 97. Insured Air Mail Post with tracking to the USA would be $30.00 USD - with no tracking is cheaper. For shipping cost to other countries, please contact us.
