In the days when ladies only had the use of a small purse or reticule, it was not uncommon to keep a couple of coins in a small coin purse which could be attached to a chain, a chatelaine or placed within a larger purse. This example is a small mesh purse most likely of Continental silver (there are a couple of indecipherable punch marks on the frame). The frame is plain but elegant in shape with a small attachment ring at the back, and the purse is of mesh enhanced with four balls at its lower end. The condition is very good for age. This would be a charming addition to a chatelaine of the era, or to wear on a chain but would look particularly pleasing placed on a larger doll as a purse chatelaine, possibly with the addition of a small brooch with swivel for attachment. Such brooches are occasionally available on the net.
Maximum length 2.5 ins (6.4cm) x width 1.5 ins (3.8cm). Weight 14 grams.
Insured Air Mail Post with tracking to the USA would be $26.50 USD - with no tracking is cheaper. For shipping cost to other countries, please contact us.
