This is a most fascinating and elegant smaller box in the classic Campaign style. It is of mahogany edged with brass with brass escutcheon, and lock with working key. It is hinged at the back with struts so that it is stable when opened. Once opened, the lid is lined with a metal, removable tray. The base of the box has four compartments; one at the back being long and thin, one is open, one is lidded and one is hinged and removable. The two covered compartments have lifting rings. It is most likely that this box was used for an Officer’s toiletries including toothbrush, soap, pomade etc. The interior is a very unusual example for such items. The base is lined with faded green baize. The condition is very good for age with only one slight indentation at the back and as mentioned, the key (which is slightly bent) still works the lock. This would be a most interesting item to add to a collection of Campaign militaria and an intriguing talking point. Width 8.5 ins (21.5cm) x depth 5.25 ins (13.3cm) x height 2.75 ins. (7cm). Weight 1422 grams. Air Mail Post with tracking to the USA would be $50.00 USD - with no tracking is cheaper. This item is covered by our own insurance policy.
