This tintype image depicts a young woman wearing a two-tiered bustled gown with a lace collar and a black lace veil, or possibly a mantilla. She has a large watch tucked into her waistband which is most likely attached to a cord or ribbon around her neck. There is slight tinting to her cheeks. The tintype has generalized fine marks but the image itself can be clearly seen. The cardboard mat with gold bands has scattered stains on the front, and on the back there is some loss of the cardboard (see image). This is, however, an interesting image and would be a lovely addition to a collection of later 19th century photographs. Dimensions with mat 4 ins (9.8cm) x 2.4 ins (6cm). Weight 16 grams. This item appears in my book, "How the Watch was Worn - A Fashion for 500 Years", on page 109. Australia Post Registered Post with signature on delivery to the USA would be $12.50 USD.
