This is a quality large bentwood box, German in origin. Rectangular with rounded corners, it is held together with thin metal strips and tiny nails. It has been treasured and dates from around the mid-19th century. Its unusual shape would add some variety to a collection of pantry boxes. It is in good condition for age with slight losses at the end of the thinned-out laps and some loss at the end of the two laps on one end of the exterior (see image). Length 17 ins (43.5cm), width 7.75 ins (21cm), height 5.5 ins (14.5cm). Weight 686 grams. This item can be seen in the book, "Antique Boxes - Inside and Out", on page 104.
