This interesting item is a foot warmer with wire handle for carrying. The wood-turned frame holds a perforated tole box which has a door to give access to the inside where coals were placed in a container which would then allow the heat to exit through the perforations - the frame providing a safe place for the owner to rest their feet. Such items would have been used in carriages or early trains and were of great use in areas with bleak, cold, snowy winters. The overall condition is very good for age but as is quite common, the hopper is missing. There is some minor surface rust on the tin warmer. This is therefore a fascinating historical item and would be quite the talking point amongst a collection. Measures 9 ins (22.8cm) x 7.75 ins (19.cm) x height 5.75 ins (14.6cm). Weight 708 grams. This item appears in my book, “Antique Boxes, Inside and Out” on page 78.
Insured Air Mail Post with tracking to the USA would be $50.00 USD - with no tracking is cheaper. For shipping cost to other countries, please contact us.
