This writing set is held within a leatherette case and is lined with a silk pad and velvet-fitted compartment edged with braid. There are five indented spaces for the writing tools which include a seal (plain metal base), pencil with lead, dip pen with nib, letter opener and metal cylinder with two additional leads. The handles of the tools are in apricot/peach query Bakelite, with the addition of stylized scrolls in a pale gilt. It is a special feature to have all the original pieces in such a box. The condition of the leatherette box is good with some signs of wear on the top and bottom (see pictures). The hinges and box closures are still intact. The interior is in good condition for age with some very slight splitting of the silk inside the lid. The velvet has a few small spots. Length 7.75 ins (20cm), width 3.75 (9.5cm), depth 1.18 ins (3cm). Weight 152 grams. This item can be seen in my book, “Antique Boxes, Inside and Out” on page 345.
