This pleasing belt buckle is constructed from sterling silver and is of a scrolling design that was popular at the end of the 19th century. At the back there is a wide hook that fits into a correctly shaped loop on the opposite half to secure the buckle. Further out there are two long silver bars, one on each side, which would have held the two ends of the fabric belt. Each half has the maker’s mark S.I.Ld., most likely for Stokes & Ireland Ltd. There are also hallmarks for Chester (rubbed), and a date mark for 1898. The condition is very good for age. This would make a lovely companion piece to a similar style chatelaine which can be found at this site (see Item GEC-001052). Dimensions 2.75 ins (7cm) x 2 ins (5cm). Weight 36 grams.
Insured Air Mail Post with tracking to the USA would be $32.00 USD - with no tracking is cheaper. For shipping cost to other countries, please contact us.
