This black tole box for fishing lures is labelled for Hardy Bros, Makers Alnwick and dates to c1915. It can be opened by sliding a wire, which includes a U-bend, and inside is a cream finish. In the base are dividers for five lures plus another compartment and inside the lid are spaces for six smaller examples and two further compartments. Those in the lid are currently empty. In the base there are four different lures that are complete – three are in painted fish-form, two being articulated. All these examples have hooks present. The third is in a simpler fish-form. The fourth lure looks older and is of faded painted treen with one larger hook. Detail of these can be seen in the images. The overall condition shows loss of the blackened surface and wear. The interior has scattered paint loss throughout but is all functional including hinges and closure loops. This box, made by a famous maker, would be a fascinating addition to a collection or would make a special gift for the fishing tragic in your life!
