This box is of rectangular black tole. There is a label on the top which states Malloch’s Patent No 13561. When opened, it is lined with cream. There are eight metal sections, each with five clips for attaching the flies. Currently there are approximately 25 intricate, already constructed flies in different colours and hook sizes. These appear to be in good condition. The tole has areas of loss of the black and also of the cream on the interior – consistent with age and use. The hinge is intact. It closes well but this closure is not totally secure. This would be a fascinating item for the collection of a fishing enthusiast, or possibly to use. Box measures 6 ins (15.2cm) x 3.5 ins (9cm). Weight 156 grams.
This item appears in my book, “Antique Boxes, Inside and Out” on page 260.
Insured Air Mail Post with tracking to the USA would be $28.50 USD - with no tracking is cheaper. For shipping cost to other countries, please contact us.
