More from The Discerning Collector
An early 19th century mauchline snuff box with satirical theme featuring a tailor cutting off the tails of a gentleman customer’s coat, hence the caption “Cutting short his Tale”. It seems to have been a popular theme for mauchline boxes to have caricatures making fun of society. The interior retains most of its original foil lining. The transfer is a little faded and the box shows some wear appropriate for age. Length 3 ins (7.6cm), width 1.77 ins (4.5cm), height 0.79 ins (2cm). Weight 22 grams. This item appears in my book, “Antique Boxes, Inside and Out” on page 183. Insured Air Mail Post with tracking to the USA would be $35.50 USD - with no tracking is cheaper.
