This delightful image features a brother and sister named as Jessie Wharton & sister. It is a sixth plate daguerreotype and the added colour is gilt for the jewellery and tinting of their cheeks. This item is un-cased but has its full mat and protector. It has been stated that her dress is of a style most likely to be from the Midwest. Her chain holds what is most likely a gold or gilt watch fastened at the waistband and she also wears two rings on her left hand. The boy’s chain appears again to be gold or gilt. The condition of the actual image is very good for age and nice and crisp. This would be a lovely addition to any collection of daguerreotypes with the added feature of showing children of the era in all their finery. Measures 3.25 ins (7.9cm) x 2.75 ins (7cm). Weight 60 grams.
This item can be seen in the book, "How the Watch was Worn - A Fashion for 500 Years", on page 126.
Insured Air Mail Post with tracking to the USA would be $25.00 USD - with no tracking is cheaper. For shipping cost to other countries, please contact us.
