Two For His Heels
is now SOLDExcellent set of Schwarzer Peter cards made by VSSF Altenburg c.1926, featuring the brilliant and iconic designs of “Skatmalers” Otto Pech (“Pix”). Pech was given the nickname “Skatmalers” because he was responsible for much of the striking artwork of VSSF and ASS skat decks during the early decades of the 20th century (see, e.g., this shop #00006203). The designs on these Schwarzer Peter cards have survived and been made almost continuously to the present day. Schwarzer Peter is comparable to “Old Maid” in the United States.
The set has a total of 35 cards. There are 33 game cards, 16 pairs and the Black Peter cat card. In addition, there is a frontispiece card that announces the set, and an extra card that introduces the game. The cards are large and wide, measuring 105mm x 66mm, and come in the original box.
The cards are in excellent condition, except that there are 3 cards – the Black Peter card, and both cards in pair 15 – that have corner issues. The box is in exceptional condition for a children’s game that is nearly 100 years old.
