Celebrated "Can Can" deck, published by Philibert, with designs by Monique Arietti, French artist and designer, and signed by Pierre Albarran, the prominent French bridge player. I have always understood that the decks published by Philibert were actually printed by Draeger Freres. However, Fournier reports that this deck was printed by Philibert. The Arietti designs feature beautiful dancers, rich patrons, and dignified servers, evoking the Moulin Rouge of the 19th century.
The deck has 52 cards, plus 4 additional Aces, plus 2 Jokers, plus 2 insert cards -- 60 cards in all. The additional set of Aces is quite risqué, and it is interesting to note that the deck Fournier describes does not appear to include this second set. The deck was a limited edition -- 12,000 decks in all. The cards are quite wide, measuring 91mm x 66mm, and are gold gilt all around, and come in a plain box that has a sample card and may be original.
The cards are in mint condition, and the box is in very good condition.
There is also an excellent set of these cards in this shop without a box (T0000322)
