Mint, sealed (cards, not box) of a wonderful deck made c.1987 by Boechat Frères for Dusserre, titled “Jeu des Philosophes de l’An II.” The cards are a modern edition of a 1793 deck published by Master Gayant, the original of which is in the Bibliothèque Nationale. Kings, Queens, and Jacks have been replaced by philosophers, virtues, and soldiers. There is also an open deck of these cards for sale in this shop (T00005359), and the faces of the cards can be seen at the website of the World Web Playing Card Museum (WWPCM #01797).
I believe that the deck has 52 cards, plus 2 Jokers, plus a card announcing the deck. The cards are wide, measuring 88mm x 63mm, and come in the original box.
As noted, the cards are mint and sealed. The box is in excellent condition, “as new” or nearly so.
Thanks for visiting.
