Three SINGLE cards from a wonderful advertising deck, made by United States Playing Card Company, c.1910, for Hull, Grummond & Co. of Binghamton, New York. I am offering singles because the deck I have is incomplete. Each of the singles is available separately for $5; all 3 are for sale for $12. [There is another set of singles from this deck (i.e., a set of Kings) also for sale in this shop (#T00004689). The backs of the cards show Ben Franklin engaged in his famous (and much exaggerated/disputed) kite-in-a-thunderstorm experiment.
The three cards are: (i) the Joker, with an image of Ben Franklin inside a kite; (ii) an Extra Card with a portrait of Judge Day, whose relationship to Hull, Grummond, Binghamton, or the justice system generally is unclear to me; and (iii) a unique Ace of Spades. With respect to Judge Day, I note that Hull, Drummond named cigar brand after him. The cards are wide, measuring 89mm x 63mm.
The cards are in excellent condition, except that the Joker has a corner crease in the lower left corner.
Thanks for visiting.
