This listing is for 2 different McLoughlin Bros. items. First, there is a game of “Standard Authors” made c.1890 that is missing 1 card; it is for sale separately for $25. Second, there is BOX only for a rare McLoughlin card game called, “A Frog He Would A Wooing Go,” that is for sale for $5 separately. The two items together cost $30.
The “Standard Authors” game is a Quartet or Happy Families type game, with 13 author families. Each author is represented by 4 works, except for the Ralph Waldo Emerson group which is missing the card for “Representative Men.” The cards are reasonably clean, but a number of them have corner and other creases. The box is in very good condition, perhaps even excellent when compared with most McLoughlin Bros. boxes. It must be emphasized in evaluating condition, that McLoughlin Bros. games were children’s games. A paper insert with the instructions for the game are included, along with instructions for a game called, “Game of Fly Away Jack,” another McLoughlin game from c.1894. Again, this game along with its extra paper insert is available for $25.
Also included with this listing is a McLoughlin BOX only, for the game “A Frog He Would A Wooing Go.” The instructions for this game are printed directly onto the underside of the lid of the box. This box is colorful, but missing one of its side panels. It is for sale separately for $5.
