Gorgeous deck made by Daveluy of Bruges c.1860-1875. Printed in chromolithography on porcelain paper the cards have a striking gold rim around the designs. The courts are dressed in medieval costumes, and their images are set against intricate, beautiful scenic backgrounds. These scenic backgrounds for court cards may have originated with Daveluy and are often seen in early decks of the maker.
The deck has 52 suited cards. They have square corners and no indices. They measure 89mm x 58mm. There is no box.
The cards are in excellent lightly used or viewed condition, with edge wear and evidence of handling on the faces. There are no creases, tears or corner issues, and the colors are still very bright. This is a terrific antique deck of cards.
