In or about 1976, Grimaud made and published a deck that it called “Les Grands Navigateurs,” featuring brilliant designs by Jean Delpech. Wide and bridge size versions of that deck were made, and in this shop there are mint, sealed sets of the wide version for sale (see, #T0000400).
This listing is for a bridge size deck of Les Grands Navigateurs cards. However, there is an additional difference. In some of these decks Grimaud included an unbacked extra card that celebrated the “Pen Duick VI,” the legendary French ocean racing yacht designed by André Mauriac. The card has a picture of the great yacht on one side, and on the reverse there are vital statistics regarding the ship. I believe that this insert card is only included in the bridge decks, and would also note that the bridge size cards have different backs.
The deck has 52 suited cards, plus 2 Jokers, plus the Pen Duick VI card noted. In addition, while the wide deck had a paper leaflet insert, this bridge size deck has 4 extra cards that describe Delpech and his designs. As noted the cards are bridge size, measuring 89mm x 58mm. There is no box.
The cards are in excellent condition, “as new” or very nearly so.
