One of the many “authors” card games published by the major American games makers and games makers from other countries starting in or about 1861 until c.1925. Parker Brothers published a number of “authors” games between 1890 and 1915, and I believe that this particular edition, called “Nickel Edition,” dates c.1896. It is a quartet type game, although the groups are groups of 3 cards, not 4. It has a charming box. The instructions are on a card.
The game is complete at 21 cards, 7 groups of 3 cards per author, each card featuring a different work by the author. In addition there is a card with the rules of the game. The cards are slightly small size, measuring approximately 83mm x 58mm; I say “approximately” since the cards have been cut by hand. As noted the cards are housed in the wonderful original box.
The cards are in excellent condition, lightly used if at all, remarkable for a 115 year old children’s game. I have shown all 21 cards in the pictures to assist in evaluation. The box is in very good condition with bright graphics and modest wear; it has a dark spot/stain on one side.
Thanks for visiting.
