One of a number of “authors” card games made by McLoughlin Bros. beginning in 1875. According to the Strong Museum of Play, this “Game of Illustrated Authors” was published c.1890, but I wonder if the correct date is a few years earlier. The game is a quartet type game, the object of which is to collect groups of 4. There are no accompanying rules.
The game is complete at 48 cards, 12 groups of 4 cards each. All 4 cards in each group have the same illustration of the author; they differ in the order given at the bottom for the name of the author and his representative works. The cards are wide, measuring 89mm x 64mm, and are housed in the beautiful original McLoughlin box.
The cards are in what I would call very good used condition; I have shown all 48 cards in the pictures to assist in evaluation. The box is in very good condition for its age – one of the McLoughlin boxes that are works of art by themselves.
Thanks for visiting.
