One of a number of “authors” card games made by McLoughlin Bros. beginning in 1875. This one was published c.1888 under the name, “The Improved Game of Star Authors,” and there are several different games that can be played with this set of cards. The rules to these several games are explained in the accompanying rules booklet.
The game is complete at 36 cards, 18 of which are illustrations of the authors and 18 of which have a list of their respective works. The cards are wide, measuring 89mm x 63mm, and with the rules booklet are housed in the beautiful original McLoughlin box.
The cards are in what I would call good, heavily used condition, considering the fact that this is a 125 year old children’s game; however, there is soiling and a number of creases, tears, corner issues, etc., and I have shown all 36 cards in the pictures to assist in evaluation. The box is in very good condition for its age – one of the McLoughlin boxes that are works of art by themselves. The rules pamphlet is in good, perhaps very good, used condition for its age, complete and intact but well worn.
Thanks for visiting.
