Excellent double deck set of the beautiful Dondorf No. 27 “Cartes pour Dames” cards, also known as “Four Corners of the World.” It has the new eagle and shows the Dondorf name on the backs, so I have dated the cards c.1890s. The decks have Brazilian Aces. The Dondorf name is on all of the court cards, and each suit is devoted to a particular continent, with court cards and scenes on the Aces appropriate to the continent.
Each deck is complete at 52 suited cards (never a Joker). The cards are patience size, measuring 66mm x 44mm, with gold gilt at the corners. They are housed in a custom card box that is a perfect fit, but nonetheless may not be original.
The cards are in excellent lightly used condition; most of the gold gilt has worn off, but the cards are otherwise without issues. The box is also in excellent condition, with some loss of paint to the suit symbols on the three cards on the box top.
