In or about 1958, the Playing-Card Factory and Printing House of Hungary (“Offset és Játékkártya Nyomda) made a non-standard deck of maritime cards for both the Polish Ocean Lines and the Gydnia-America Lines. The backs of the cards were the same, except that the name of the shipping line changed between them, depending upon which was being advertised.
The cards listed here have the same backs as those decks. However, these decks have standard English pattern court cards, and different Jokers and Aces than the earlier non-standard set. Further, these cards were made by Coeur of Germany. I assume that they were made soon after the non-standard deck, and so have dated these cards to the 1960s.
Each deck has 52 suited cards, plus 3 Jokers, which are not standard Coeur cards. The cards are bridge size, measuring 88mm x 57mm, and come in a plastic box; I do not know whether it is original to the cards.
One deck is mint and sealed; the other was removed from its wrapper to be inspected and photographed for this listing. The box is in no better than good condition with many scratches and some cloudiness, but without cracks or breaks.
Thanks for visiting.
