Wonderful standard Belgian deck made c.1935 by Mesmaeker Freres for Davros cigarettes of Egypt, a beautiful deck that serves as a reminder of the prominence of the Egyptian cigarette industry in the early 20th century. The World Web Playing Card Museum dates this deck c.1935, and I have adopted that date.
The deck is complete with 32 suited cards; the courts are an elegant variant of the standard Belgian pattern, with the Davros name on each one. The cards are bridge size, measuring 88mm x 57mm, with gold gilt at the corners, and come in the original box – a charming box with the Davros logo on it.
The cards are in excellent condition, lightly used if at all. The box is in very good condition, quite clean for its age, but with a top side flap missing and an abrasion where the main top flap is inserted.
Thanks for visiting.
