In the 1970s, Harry Margary of the United Kingdom published a series of facsimile decks, based upon early decks from the 17th and 18th centuries. I believe that Margary published a total of 9 such decks. Offered here are 7 decks from that series: (i) Arms of English Peers; (ii) Cries of London; (iii) Knavery of the Rump; (iv) Morden’s Playing Cards; (v) Marlborough’s Victories; (vi) Transformation Cards; and (vii) The Beggars’ Opera. Margary also published a “South Sea Bubble” deck that is not included in this group, and a Fortune Telling deck that was once a part of this group, but has been sold. Each individual deck is available for $10, and all 7 are for sale for $65. Except for the Transformation Cards deck, each of the decks is accompanied by a paper insert that describes the original set of cards on which it is based. AGAIN, THE "FORTUNE TELLING" DECK SHOWN IN THE FEATURED PICTURE HAS BEEN SOLD.
Each deck is complete, usually with 52 suited cards, as the early original decks did not have Jokers. The cards are square cornered and large, typically measuring 98mm x 67mm, and each deck comes in the original box.
The cards of each deck are “as new.” The boxes are quite clean, but in some cases have minor shelf wear.
THE AMOUNT SHOWN FOR DOMESTIC SHIPPING AND INSURANCE ASSUMES THAT ALL 7 DECKS ARE PURCHASED. IF FEWER ARE PURCHASED, SHIPPING MAY BE LESS.
