Modern edition by Edizioni del Solleone and Vito Arienti of beautiful 17th century cards designed by Gilles de la Boissiere and engraved by Pierre de la Pautre. The box gives a date of 1698 for the originals, but the World Web Playing Card Museum suggests a date of 1660. The designs depict aspects of war. This recent edition is limited to 1200 decks, of which this is number 31.
The deck has 52 suited cards with suit symbols in the upper left corner. Each card has an illustration and a description. The set is accompanied by a large card (the size of 2 of the playing cards) that appears to be a note to Monseigneur le Duc de Bourgogne. The playing cards are small, measuring 85mm x 55mm, and along with the large card come wrapped in a red cardboard and housed in the original box.
All cards, the cardboard wrapper, and the box are all “as new.”
