Mint, sealed deck of wonderful cards made by Carta Mundi in a limited edition of 999 for the International Playing Card Society, and distributed by the IPCS to its members c.2000. The deck is a composite deck, with cards chosen by IPCS members. Each card replicates the same card from a famous historical deck. The faces of the cards selected can be seen at the World Web Playing Card Museum (WWPCM #03249).
The deck was accompanied by a booklet – not present here – that described the deck as follows:
“The IPCS Members Pack offers just a glimpse of the rich variety of playing-cards produced over many centuries. The pack is not a review of playing-card history, nor is it meant to be used as a pack of playing cards. Each card has been selected by a member of the IPCS from their own private collection of playing cards, with each contributor writing a commentary on their card for this booklet. This way the pack is a permanent record of the countless different enthusiasms, passions and interests which members of the countless different enthusiasms, passions and interests which members of the IPCS have in playing-cards at the commencement of the third millenium.”
I believe that the deck has 52 suited cards, plus 5 Jokers, plus an extra card introducing the deck. As noted above, it was originally accompanied by a 38-page booklet with the descriptions by IPCS members noted in the quote above, but that booklet is not present here. The cards are large, measuring 100mm x 65mm. Not only is the booklet missing, but so is the original box.
The cards are mint and sealed.
Thanks for visiting.
