Beautiful deck made by Grimaud c.1977 for “La Vie du Rail,” a French publishing group which specializes in magazines and books about rail transport. According to the insert card, the Aces, Jokers and male court cards are depictions of men in early rail uniforms taken from a mid-19th century lithograph by an R. de Moraine. [Moraine is best known today for his “The Vampire” lithograph]. If I am translating correctly, the Queens are based upon 19th century fashion designs appearing in fashion magazines of the 1870s.
The deck has 52 suited cards, plus 2 Jokers, plus the insert card noted introducing the deck. The cards are bridge size, measuring 89mm x 58mm, and come in a plastic box that is not original.
The cards are in excellent condition, “as new” or nearly so. FWIW, the box is in excellent condition.
