Delightful, complete set of “Wrap-Arounds” made by Freund, Mayer of England. This product is made of heavy paper in the nature of a thick napkin, and “wraps around” a drink. The paper insert that accompanies the set states: “Whether you know me or not, I am a most unusual discovery. It’s my job to keep hands warm and dry, when folks enjoy their favorite pastime. I fit around a glass (no matter what the contents) just like a glove. If your glass is wet or cold I protect you and stick to it, absorbing cold and moisture, till you peel me off. If you want color, amusement, conversation, use me. I am . . . A WRAP-AROUND.” These wraparounds have playing card suit symbols, and obviously the “favorite pastime” is card playing, probably bridge or whist. I have seen other Freund, Mayer products dated c. 1960s and so have adopted that as the approximate date here, but I don’t really know when these were made.
The set is complete with all 14 “Wrap-Arounds.” Each measures approximately 9½” by 3½”. The come in the original box, with a bridge foursome on the lid. I doubt that a “Wrap-Around” can be reused, and so it might be somewhat rare to find a complete set.
The “Wrap-Arounds” are “as new.” The box is clean, but has issues that are visible in the pictures, including a hole punched through the bottom, and a spot on one side of the bottom where some kind of tag has been removed.
Thanks for visiting.
