Very interesting book written by Virginia Wayland and published by her and her husband Harold in 1967 describing the background and history of a deck of geographical cards designed and published in or about 1676 by Henry Winstanley. Early educational decks of cards are fascinating, none more so than geographical cards, as they reflect the views generally held at that time about the planet and what it contained. The book was published in a limited edition of 515, of which this is number 81.
The book measures approximately 9½” vertically and 7” horizontally, and has 75 pages of text. It has no book cover, and I don’t know if it ever did. It is in excellent condition, “as new” or very nearly so.
There is also a set of the playing cards themselves, as published in a limited edition by the Waylands, for sale in this shop (T00003774).
Thanks for visiting.
