Beautiful, interesting and somewhat rare deck made in Canada celebrating the history of Quebec province, with court cards, Aces and a Joker that feature paintings from the Museums of Quebec or the National Archives of Canada. Each of the pip cards contains names and basic descriptions of four Quebec historical figures – two at each end -- and the other Joker also introduces the deck. I do not know the maker of these cards, but “Ortem” of Longueuil seems to be the publisher. Many, if not most, of the individuals named on the pip cards seem to be from the 17th century. I note that Quebec province was founded in or about 1608, and it may be that the cards were published to celebrate a particular anniversary.
The deck has 52 suited cards, plus 2 Jokers, one of which announces the deck. The cards are wide, measuring 87mm x 57mm, and come in a plastic box that is not original.
The cards are “as new.” FWIW, the box is in excellent condition .
Thanks for visiting.
