Set of cards from Panorama Magazine, a Dutch magazine of popular culture that took on an erotic slant over the years, on the occasion of the magazine’s 70th anniversary. The cards were detachable inserts in editions of the magazine published over several weeks. They have “ragged” edges showing that they were detached in this way. The Aces, Jokers and court cards have photographs of noted Dutch celebrities – all but the Jokers are women in suggestive fashions and poses. The two Jokers are men: Gerald Vanenberg (Dutch soccer player) and Rob de Nijs (Dutch singer and actor). [Incidentally, Pia Zadora is the Queen of Diamonds. Some may remember her as the somewhat notorious second wife of Israeli businessman Meshulam Riklis, 32 years her senior, who promoted her as an actress and singer. In 1982, she received a Golden Globe Award as “Best New Actress of the Year” amid charges that Riklis bought the award with an intense promotional campaign. The same year she starred in a movie called “Butterfly,” a wretched, tasteless film about father/daughter incest for which she received multiple awards as “Worst Actress of the Year.”]
The deck has all 52 suited cards, plus 2 Jokers. The cards are slightly small bridge size, measuring 85mm x 55mm, and come in a plastic box that is not original.
The cards are in excellent, “as new” condition – somewhat remarkable since given their history as magazine inserts.
