Mint, sealed (cards, not box) double deck set of the “Operette” cards made by Coeur in 1986, featuring the wonderful, humorous designs of artist Peter Becker on the Jokers, Aces and court cards. The Aces and court cards of each suit illustrate the characters from a particular operetta by an Austrian composer: “Zigeunerbaron” (“The Gypsy Baron”) by Strauss (Clubs); “Landstreicher” (“Tramps”) by Ziehrer (Diamonds); “Vogelhandler” (“Bird Seller”) by Zeller (Hearts); and “Gasparone” by Millocker (Spades). The Jokers are popular and legendary Germanic comic characters: Hanswurst, Kasperl, and Harlekin. In addition, the Deuces have illustrations of the composers. The faces of the cards can be seen at the World Web Playing Card Museum website (WWPCM#03805).
It is my understanding that each deck has 52 suited cards, plus 3 Jokers. The cards are bridge size, measuring 87mm x 58mm, and come in the original Coeur plastic box inside the original cardboard sleeve.
As noted, the cards are mint and sealed. The plastic box is in very good condition. The cardboard sleeve is in no better than good condition, with considerable wear and evidence that a tag has been removed.
