Wonderful double deck of patience cards made by Obchodni Tiskarny , n.p., Kolin ("OTK"), the leading card maker of Czechoslovakia, during the 1940s and 1950s. The cards feature engaging court cards depicting characters from the renowned 1951 Czech film, “The Baker’s Emperor – The Emperor’s Baker” (“Císaruv pekar a pekaruv císar”), and I have dated the cards to the decade following the film. Fournier dates the cards to 1935, but this must be incorrect, since the film was made in 1951.
Each deck has 52 cards, plus 2 Jokers, plus an extra backed card that is blank except for an OTK “Casino” logo. The cards measure 67mm x 44mm, and come in the original box.
One of the 2 decks is mint and sealed – still in its wrapper; the other deck is “as new.” The cards are in excellent condition, “as new” or very nearly so. The box is in very good condition, structurally intact and clean, but with some wear and a torn portion of the bottom of the box.
