Beautiful deck called “Concise,” made by Nintendo, date unknown, for Sanseido Co., Ltd., a Japanese publishing company known for publishing dictionaries. The cards pursue a “dictionary” theme, in the sense that each card has a word in 4 languages: Japanese, English, French and German. The designs are lovely, but I have been unable to learn anything about the deck. Sanseido has published a “Concise” dictionary since at least the 1970s and perhaps since the 1960s, and the shape of these cards is typical of cards published by Nintendo in the 1960s and 1970s. But a new edition of the "Concise" dictionary is released by Sanseido periodically, and I can’t be sure whether this deck accompanied the original edition or a later one. I do note that one of the words featured on the cards is "telegram" and given the demise of that form of communication in the 1960s and 1970s, there is additional reason to suspect a date for these cards in the 1960s or 1970s.
The deck has 52 cards, plus 2 Jokers. The cards are long, measuring 100mm x 58mm. They come in the original hard plastic Nintendo box.
The cards are in excellent condition, “as new” or very nearly so. The hard plastic box is also in excellent condition.
Thanks for visiting.
