Beautiful set of antique cards made by Van Genechten, with full length single-ended courts and no indices. The World Web Playing Card Museum titles the cards “Luiks Beeld,” and they are dated c.1869 in Fournier and also at the WWPCM website. The listing in Fournier is for a 32-card deck and describes the designs as “popular in Liege.” The cards are not shown in the catalogue of the Cary Collection.
The deck is complete with 52 suited cards. The cards are on thick, stiff stock, such that the deck is almost 50% thicker than a typical current 52-card deck. The cards are slightly small, measuring 85mm x 49mm. There is no box.
The cards are in excellent condition, except for very slight foxing/spots on 3 of the aces. The faces of all 52 cards are shown to help in evaluating condition.
