Excellent set of Dondorf's gorgeous "Club" cards, No. 133, sometimes called Cartes du Beau Monde, made c.1890s, featuring beautiful scenic Aces depicting scenes from around the world. These Aces are double ended, with a scene at each end of each Ace. The tax stamp on the Ace of Hearts is an Italian stamp which was used in the 1890s; the cards have no indices.
The deck is complete at 52 cards (never a Joker). The cards are large, measuring 93mm x 62mm, with gold gilt at the corners. They come in the original box.
The cards are in excellent lightly used condition, with modest edge wear and evidence of handling; about 80% of the gold gilt is intact. The box is in good, perhaps very good condition, reasonably clean, but with overall wear; it has protected the cards well for the past 125 years.
