Extremely interesting, and I assume somewhat rare, deck of cards made c.1973 for Heublein, Inc., maker unknown, to advertise Smirnoff Vodka. I believe that the deck was made in the United States for distribution and sale to the Cuban population in Miami. The court cards are non-standard, with the photographs of the faces of Cuban television and music stars inserted in the standard royal dress. The inserted celebrities are: Miguelito Valdes (all 4 Kings), Armando Rodriquez (all 4 Jacks), Neida Revuelta (Diamonds and Clubs Queen), and Merceditas Menendez (Hearts and Spades Queen). Their names are given at one end, and their “comments” on certain Smirnoff drinks at the other end. Except for certain corporate information on the box, all words are in Spanish, most prominently the advertising slogan: “Parece que no . . . pero si” which appears on the box, the backs, the Jokers, and inside the suit symbol of the Ace of Spades.
The deck has 52 suited cards, plus 2 Smirnoff Jokers. The cards are bridge size, measuring 89mm x 58mm. They come in the original box.
The cards are mint, removed from the wrapper to be inspected and photographed for this listing. The box is in very good condition, clean but with shelf wear and a slight tear developing at one side of the top.
Thanks for visiting.
