Rare and coveted deck of cards made by Western Playing Card Co., featuring backs with a photograph of a very young Katherine Hepburn in her role as the spirited tomboy Jo in RKO’s “Little Women.” The film was directed by George Cukor and nominated for Academy Awards for Best Picture and Best Director.
The deck has 52 suited cards, but is missing its Joker, a standard Western Joker of the time (see, World Web Playing Card Museum #01492r200). The cards have blue tinted edges. The cards are bridge size, measuring 89mm x 58mm, and come in the original custom Little Women box.
The cards are in very good used condition, with approximately 50% of the tint intact, and without creases, tears or issues at the corner. The images on the backs are still quite bright and compelling. The box is in no better than good condition, with two corners of the lid split out, and overall wear and soiling.
There is another set of Western's "Little Women" cards for sale in this shop and that set has its Joker (T00003931). The backs of that set show the entire March family, not just Hepburn as Jo.
