Wonderful non-standard Dutch cards made c.1969 by Drukkerij Juten with backs whose designs are based upon matchbook covers made by "De Kloof" of Bergen op Zoom. That is, the backs of these De Kloof playing cards mimic the look of matchbook covers that were made by De Kloof as advertising for other companies. The backs of this particular deck of cards are based upon a matchbook made for a "De Driesprong" of Winsum, but the listing for these cards in the World Web Playing Card Museum (WWPCM #00704) makes it clear that there are sets of these cards that have other backs with a similar "look" to this deck, but showing the name and contact information of other companies. The Aces are illustrations in black of famous Dutch castles, and the Aces, Jokers, and court cards are completely charming original designs by artist Walter Hagennaars.
The deck has 52 suited card, plus 2 Jokers. The cards are not as “finished” as standard playing cards from the 1960’s and 1970’s, which enhances the artwork. The cards are small, measuring 86mm x 56mm. There is no box.
The cards are in superb "as new" condition.
There is also a 32-card deck of these cards for sale in this shop (T00002472), with different backs advertising a different company.
