Mint, sealed set of delightful small tarot cards, Major Arcana and Fool card only, made and published by Il Meneghello c.1981 in a signed and numbered limited edition of 2500 sets in Italy -- 1,000 sets in the U.S. -- of which this is no. 96, featuring the brilliant and humorous designs of its founder, Osvaldo Menegazzi. The final 2 pictures of this listing are the actual set for sale; the pictures showing the faces of the cards are from an open set (i.e., #574 from the American run).
The cards are pictured in the Kaplan Encyclopedia and described as follows:
“Twenty-two Major Arcana by Osvaldo Menegazzi show medieval figures smoking pipes as they play the roles of traditional tarot personages. Some of the pipes, such as those on 13 La Morte (Death) and 16 La Torre (The Tower), describe further the themes of the cards. The deck was published in 1981 by Edizioni Il Meneghello, Milan, in a limited edition of 1000 signed and numbered copies. The cards are small, measuring only 3⅛ inches by 1⅞ inches.”
The set is complete at 22 cards – the Major Arcana and the Fool card – plus a card announcing the deck, numbered and signed by Menegazzi. The cards are very small, measuring 80mm x 49mm. They are wrapped in cardboard and then placed in a sleeve that is original to the cards.
The cards, cardboard and sleeve are “as new.”
